After we found our car yesterday (thanks DC “courtesy tow”), we decided to check out Union Market. It is pretty much awesome. Most of all because I no longer have to stalk Red Apron and their delicious guanciale (best I’ve had since Europe) around the city farmer’s markets. They also had some amazing looking steaks which will have to wait since we’re hitting Bourbon Steak for some wagyu for the Bob’s birthday next weekend. Harvey’s meats had this awesome looking pig head.
Other highlights not pictured include the trickling springs creamery (they make ice cream!) and righteous cheese amongst a long list. The only disappointing vendor was the “farm fresh” vegetable stand where there was clearly a ton of non-seasonal produce. And the prices were awful. I mean seriously $15 for some green onions, cauliflower, and 3 leeks. I was assured all of those were local and they look great but those prices are just out of control.
Another awesome find was Salt and Sundry, a beautifully cultivated home store that makes me want to quit my job and start selling cheese knives, napkins and depression glass. Plus it inspired me to finally get stuff done around the house today. The owner also has a charming blog that’s worth checking out http://www.amandamcclements.com/?m=1
